Somernova Presents Momentum Mobility Plan to USNC

On Monday, June 17th, 2024, the Somernova team presented our mobility plan for the campus expansion to the Union Square Neighborhood Council as requested by the board. We are pleased that the USNC acknowledged our efforts to design a thoughtful and integrated mobility strategy, including our continued commitment to being good neighbors. The Somernova Momentum Mobility Plan is designed to create an environment with various transportation options. By promoting walking, bicycling, micro-mobility, and public transit, we aim to reduce car dependency and foster a healthier, more connected community.

Key components of Somernova’s Momentum Mobility Plan are as follows:

  • Inclusive Advisory Council: Establishing the Somernova Mobility Advisory Council with representatives from the neighborhood, the city and the campus to ensure continuous improvement and adaptation of our mobility plans.

  • Incremental Development: Each phase of development will build on the previous one, allowing for ongoing refinement and improvement to meet our mobility goals.

  • Beauty & Placemaking: Creating inviting spaces with a mix of uses to encourage people to stay in the area, reducing the need for car trips and promoting a vibrant community atmosphere.

  • Proximity & Connectivity: Enhancing connections and removing barriers to make destinations feel closer and more accessible, encouraging walking and cycling.

  • Planet-Minded Individuals: Attracting individuals who prioritize sustainability by fostering an environment that emphasizes walking, biking, and sustainable transit.

  • Multimodal Mobility Hub: Co-locating transportation modes to facilitate seamless transfers, including Bluebikes stations, on-site bike parking, sidewalk improvements, shared streets, raised crosswalks, new shuttle service, improved bus stops, and a new commuter rail station.

We look forward to continued collaboration with the Union Square Neighborhood Council to co-create an environment that supports diverse and sustainable transportation options.
