VOXEL8, A SOMERNOVA TENANT, APPOINTS NEW PRESIDENT AND CEO, DR. FRIEDRICH VON GOTTBERG
Former CEO Travis Busbee has been named new CTO
Multi-material 3D printing company Voxel8 has appointed Dr. Friedrich von Gottberg as its President and Chief Executive Officer. von Gottberg will step in to replace former CEO Travis Busbee as well as become a new member of the company’s Board of Directors. Busbee for his part, has been named Chief Technology Officer.
Voxel8 was founded in 2014 by Travis Busbee and Harvard University professor and AM innovator Dr. Jennifer Lewis. The company has brought to market a digital manufacturing platform tailored to the production of multi-material footwear, sports apparel and smart textiles. The system, called the ActiveLab Digital Fabrication System, enables users to print parts with finely tuned properties and full-color control through the combination of extrusion and spraying techniques.
Busbee, who has held the position of CEO for two years, will be able to focus increasingly on Voxel8’s technology as CTO, leading product research and development and the pioneering of new additive technologies.
“We’re grateful to Travis for his dedicated leadership over the past two years, during which Voxel8 developed important new technologies, introduced our ActiveLab Digital Fabrication System, and won major new customers in the athletic footwear, sportswear and connected devices markets,” said Charles Shalvoy, Executive Chairman of Voxel8. “At the same time, we’re very pleased to welcome Fred von Gottberg as our new CEO. His strong business, technical, and leadership skills enable us to build on the progress we’ve made to date with our unique manufacturing platform.”
Dr. von Gottberg joins Voxel8 after gaining extensive leadership experience as Senior Vice President and President Purification Solutions at chemicals company Cabot Corporation. The executive also served as the Entrepreneur in Residence at Harvard University from April to December 2019. Dr. von Gottberg is trained in chemical engineering and holds a PhD (ChemE) and MS from MIT.
“I’m excited to join Voxel8, and look forward to working with Travis and the rest of the team as the company positions itself for the next stage of growth,” said Dr. von Gottberg.
Two months ago, Voxel8 announced a successful Series B funding round led by DSM Venturing. The funding from the investment round will enable the company to ramp up the adoption of its multi-material 3D printing technology in the footwear and sportswear markets.
